The Engineering Education Scheme (England) matches a team of Year 12 students and their teacher, with partner companies to work on a real life scientific, engineering or technical problem. During the 6 month project, teams are encouraged to show industrial enterprise and gain extensive experience of problem-solving, team-working and project management.
Participating schools benefit from teacher professional development and accreditation with the College of Teachers. The scheme also supports the facilitation of all Key Skills requirements and improves industrial and higher education links.
- Annually between 1300-1400 students participate in the Scheme
- 88% achieve 9 or more A*-C grades GCSE's (national average is 46%)
- Approximately 30% are women
- 89% go on to read engineering or associated science/IT/technical degrees
